VersaCourt has joined forces with #tide®, a Swiss innovator in ocean plastic recycling, to develop a new kind of athletic court—one that doesn’t just support play, but also supports the planet. This unique collaboration transforms harmful ocean-bound plastic into high-performance game court surfaces, blending sustainability with serious sport utility.
At the heart of this effort is a groundbreaking material innovation. Plastic waste collected from coastal regions in Mexico and the Caribbean is reprocessed into eco-conscious polypropylene granules using a clean, energy-efficient method. These granules are then molded into VersaCourt’s modular tile systems, producing game courts that look professional, feel great underfoot, and help reduce plastic pollution.
The project began with a symbolic and impactful first step: the installation of a donated court in Progreso, located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. This court isn’t just a place to shoot hoops or practice volleys—it represents a deeper mission to engage communities, create local jobs, and educate future generations on the importance of environmental protection.

What makes this initiative stand out is its triple impact. It diverts plastic from the oceans, supports economic development through waste collection jobs, and lowers the environmental cost of producing sports surfaces. In short, it demonstrates that infrastructure for play can be both functional and forward-thinking.
VersaCourt’s modular court systems are already known for their versatility—easy to install and fit for sports like basketball, tennis, and pickleball. Now, with the integration of recycled ocean plastics, they also reflect a growing demand for environmentally responsible building solutions. Performance isn’t compromised. If anything, it’s enhanced by the meaningful story embedded in every tile.
This partnership is a strong example of how innovation in materials can power social and environmental change, giving communities around the world access to quality courts built with purpose.
