Sprinturf Opens LEAP Grant for 2026-2027 Season With $500,000 for Community Field Projects

Synthetic turf manufacturer Sprinturf has reopened applications for its LEAP Grant, the third funding round since the program began in January 2025. Roughly $500,000 in matching funds is available this cycle, aimed at schools, municipalities and community organisations trying to get a usable playing surface built or replaced.

Winners will be named on November 30, 2026. Full guidelines and the application form are on the Sprinturf LEAP Grant page.

What the money is for

Applicants have to be building or resurfacing something real. The grant covers new installations, grass-to-turf conversions and replacements of worn synthetic fields, across baseball, softball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, multipurpose and practice field configurations.

To qualify, a project needs to meet four conditions:

  • Synthetic turf must be the primary surfacing material for the field or play area
  • The design must include impact-absorbing safety elements, such as a shock pad
  • The applicant must show community involvement and matching funds on their side
  • There must be a credible plan for ongoing maintenance after the field opens

Sprinturf says it gives extra weight to applications that replace an existing artificial turf field, build in sustainable practices, and produce a facility that is genuinely usable by everyone in the community rather than by a single programme.

Who the programme is looking for

The selection criteria lean toward places where field access is already a constraint: ageing facilities that are past their service life, maintenance budgets that cannot keep pace, and communities where the number of teams and programmes outstrips the number of usable fields.

That last point is a familiar bottleneck for parks departments and athletic directors, where one overbooked grass field ends up rationed across a dozen groups and closes for weeks after heavy rain.

“Access to recreation should not depend on a community’s zip code,” said Justin Reddy, President of Sprinturf, adding that many of the most committed teams in the country are playing on the least maintained surfaces, and that the grant is meant to give those communities a realistic route to a better one.

Support beyond the cheque

The award is not only cash. Recipients also get design input and installation support from Sprinturf intended to shorten the gap between an approved plan and a finished field. On replacement projects, the company handles turf removal and infill reclamation itself, using in-house crews and purpose-built equipment — a line item that often surprises first-time buyers when they price a rip-out separately.

Track record so far

Across its first two rounds, the LEAP Grant has funded 23 projects in 17 states.

Applying

Requirements, deadlines and programme rules are published at sprinturf.com/leap. Applicants should have their matching funding source, maintenance plan and community support documentation ready before starting, since those are the elements the review weighs most heavily.
