The Project
Spooky Nook Champion Mill in Hamilton, Ohio, is North America’s largest indoor sports complex, featuring nearly 700,000 square feet for various athletic activities. To accommodate diverse sports and training needs, Ecore’s high-performance flooring was chosen for its versatility and quality. This facility, an expansion following the original Spooky Nook complex’s success, includes a full-size outdoor turf field, multiple courts, and extensive workout spaces. It caters to a growing demand for functional training, youth programs, and adult sports leagues.

The Solution
At Mill 1 of Spooky Nook, the sports courts feature Bounce 2 Motivate Class I flooring for durability and energy restitution. The outdoor turf field, installed by ATurf, an Ecore company, accommodates various sports and meets competition standards. The Fitness Center includes Ecore’s specialized surfaces, FlexTurf Monster and RageTurf Rally, for diverse athletic needs, offering facilities like group exercise studios, a 200-meter track, and specific courts. It also features a high-performance area with durable Ecore surfaces designed for intense training and equipment use.
In addition to the main performance spaces, Ecore’s flooring was specified in the following locations:
- Group Exercise Studios: Feature Baller and Balanced Motivate Class I flooring in various colors for light strength and conditioning, offering durability and easy maintenance.
- 200-Meter Track: Installed with Performance Rally in blue, this surface uses itsTRU® technology for impact absorption and energy return.
- Basketball and Pickleball Courts: Equipped with Baller Rally Class II flooring, providing multi-purpose functionality with reinforced wear layers and aesthetic wood colors.
- Main Fitness Floor: Features Performance Beast Plus flooring, ideal for heavy-duty training, with inlaid Spooky Nook logo platforms.
- Restrooms and Locker Rooms: Have HydroGrip Motivate flooring in Natural Pond, offering slip resistance and comfort, crucial for wet areas.
The Result
When asked about the performance of the floors, Cook was emphatic in her response. “There have been no issues with the flooring whatsoever. I think our equipment has taken a bigger beating than the flooring, which is a good testament to the products. Everything is easy to clean and maintain as well. The fact that the floors are sustainable is an additional bonus.”
